The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is the in-house law firm for the University of Maryland, College Park. Administrators, faculty and staff members should consult with an OGC attorney when legal issues arise during the course of university activities or business. At OGC we help our university clients fulfill their educational, research, and entrepreneurial missions in accord with the many legal and policy requirements applicable to public research universities. We are problem solvers committed to helping our clients achieve their goals in a creative, practical, and timely manner. This website is an educational resource for university clients, and is not intended to provide legal advice for any particular situation.

Personal Legal Resources

The OGC does not represent faculty, staff, or students in personal legal matters outside the scope of their business as university officials. For assistance on personal legal matters faculty and staff may wish to contact a lawyer referral service, undergraduate students may contact the Undergraduate Student Legal Aid Office, and graduate students may contact the Graduate Legal Aid Office.
